He may have gotten his start running through the halls of his high school, but contemporary pop crooner and all-around celebrity heartthrob John Mayer has come a long way from his stomping grounds of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The pop singer/songwriter has seen monumental success with his vocal career over the past few years, and now Mayer gets to prove at the apex of his career by performing at the "Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night," a one-hour television special announcing the nominations for this year's Grammy Awards.
Mayer took the stage alongside other past Grammy award winners Mariah Carey, Foo Fighters, Celine Dion and B.B. King Dec. 3 at the Nokia Theatre L.A. Live, firing up the national audience for this year's 51st Annual Grammy Awards, which will take place on February 8 (aired on February 9.) As John Mayer gets his concert routine in check, the magic behind the Grammys is starting to unravel at Los Angeles Staples Center, and not just in speculation of this year's nominees. Mayer became part of history that week as he performs on the first ever televised event announcing Grammy nominations.
"The Grammy Nominations Concert Live!! - Countdown to Music's Biggest Night," hosted by Taylor Swift and LL Cool J, also sheds light on the grand opening of the Grammy Museum, a state-of-the-art museum with more than 30,000 square feet covered in music exhibits. The museum, which opened to the public on December 6, will be the epicenter of the event's after-party, a gala featuring the original members of the Time and DJ Mick Boogie.
With all this televised excitement, you may not even need John Mayer tickets to get in on all the action, but if you want to see this solo act in the limelight for himself online ticket resellers are great places to find sold out concert tickets.
Before the stunning musician graced radio waves worldwide with his buttery vocals and his heart on his sleeve, John Mayer was another starving artist trying to make it out of the double doors of the Berklee College of Music. The East Coast native attended the prestigious music school before dropping out and moving to Atlanta in his younger years, making noise with his debut album Inside Wants Out in 1999.
Boasting a formulaic type of alternative rock/pop music both catchy and sentimental, Mayer's insides spilled out with his debut album, earning a regular spot on the Atlanta club circuit while striking gold with publicity after making a cameo at 2000's South by Southwest Music Festival.
His performance's exposure led to a recording contract with Aware Records (part of Columbia), and eventually Mayer's debut major-label album Room for Squares was released to much avail. The album featured charting singles "Why Georgia," "Your Body Is a Wonderland" and "Neon," propelling John Mayer into the new millennium in style.
After experiencing the widespread success of Room for Squares, Mayer next hit the studio for 2003's Any Given Thursday and Heavier Things, thereafter assembling the John Mayer Trio alongside drummer Steve Jordan and bassist Pino Palladino. Since then, the gentle vocalist has released a number of hit albums and singles while holding his own on tour, and current hit singles such as "Say" secure Mayer's spot as one of the top acts of the decade.
